I AM
How can I begin to fathom that God is “I AM”?
How can my myopic mind comprehend
The mightiness of the I AM?
I keep thinking, meditating, pondering—
Yet it feels too vast,
Too high for such a minute being like me.
We all have names.
My name is Abigail,
And already, that places a limit on me.
But when I hear God declare “I AM,”
No lid can contain it,
No box can hold its weight.
I AM LIMITLESS?
I AM EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING?
I AM THE BEGINNING AND THE END?
I AM, AND WILL BE, AND WILL ALWAYS BE?
I AM NEVER CHANGING?
I AM THE SUBSTANCE OF THE UNIVERSE?
When God told Moses,
“Tell them I AM has sent you.”
He wrapped eternity in two simple words.
And then, as if to anchor the mystery,
He added, “The God of Abraham,
the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob.”
For perhaps they could not comprehend “I AM”
Without a thread to cling to.
To imagine God as I AM
is to let the mind step out of the natural
And into the reality of the supernatural.
It is to stand before infinity.
And confess:
He is not just being—
He is Being itself.
He is “I AM”
